今回気になった単語は、resin /rézn/ です。以下で意味等を確認していきます。
まず、LDOCEで意味を引いてみると、“a thick sticky liquid that comes out of some trees”や、“a type of plastic”とあり、『ウィズダム英和辞典』には、「樹脂: 松やに」と載っていました。
続いてODEで語源を調べてみると、“the Middle English: from Latin resina; related to Greek rhētinē ‘pine resin’. Compare with ROSIN.”と定義されていました。
以上のことから記事では、レジンという種類のプラスチックと解釈することができます。
