今回気になったのは、perilous /pérələs/ です。以下で意味等を確認していきます。
まず、LDOCEで調べてみると、“very dangerous”とあり、『ウィズダム英和辞典』には、「きわめて危険な」とありました。
続いてODEで語源を調べてみると、“Middle English: from Old French perillous, from Latin periculosus, from periculum ‘danger’ (SEE PERIL).”と定義されていました。
調べているなかでスペイン語でも「危険な」という意味で、“peligroso”という単語があることを思い出しました。記事を読んだ際に、すぐに思い出すことができず悔しかったです。（Otoyo）
