　6月9日に新幹線で殺傷事件を起こした容疑者が再逮捕されました。

　今回取り上げるのはfall out / fˈɔːl άʊt / です。文脈から良い関係性ではなかったということまでは分かりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）には「〔…と / …のことで〕けんかをする,けんか別れをする」や「〈兵隊が〉解散する,隊列を離れる」や「〈放射線物質が〉流出する」などとといった意味がありました。LDOCEにはto have a quarrelやif a tooth or your hair falls out, it is then no longer attached to your bodyやif soldiers fall out, they stop standing in a line and move away to different placesとありました。

　fall outと聞くと「抜ける」といった意味が真っ先に思い浮かんでしまいましたが、LDOCEには一番初めにto have a quarrelと定義されていたので、こちらの意味で使われることが多いのかもしれません。(rain)
