大阪北部地震で、9歳の女児を含む3人が死亡しました。
A lower 6 on the 7-tier Japanese seismic intensity scale was recorded in Kita Ward, Osaka city, as well as in the municipalities of Takatsuki, Hirakata, Ibaraki and Minoo in the same prefecture.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake had an epicenter in northern Osaka Prefecture and occurred at a depth of about 13 kilometers.

取り上げる語はepicenter /epɪˌsentə/ です。文脈より、「震源地」を指していると推測しました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では「(地震の)震央、(原爆などの)爆心地、中心点、中心地」とありました。また、LDOCEでは “the place on the surface of the Earth that is right above the point where an earthquake begins inside the Earth” “the place where the most important things happen and important decisions are made” とありました。Weblio英和和英辞典を見てみると、epi-は古代ギリシア語で「上」を意味し、近代ラテン語のepicentrumに由来する事が分かりました。
今回の地震は西日本での発生、最大震度6弱ということで非常に衝撃的でした。また、「スロースリップ」の影響で各地で地震が頻発しています。今後、来るとされている巨大地震に備え、防災知識と防災用具の確認を今一度行いたいと思います。(seventh-dan)
