気になった単語はshebang /ʃəˈbæŋ/ です。

文脈から、「全体で見ると」といった意味になると推測しました。

ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では「出来事、事件」とありました。また、LDOCEでは “the whole shebang” の形で載っており “the whole thing” と説明がありました。

英辞郎on the webで調べてみると、上記にある意味で使われたのは、1869年にMark Twainが編集者へ宛てた手紙の中での「shebang=家」という連想からであることが分かりました。

ナダル選手は、クレーキングの名に違わぬ圧巻のプレーで優勝を手にしました。この11回目の優勝というのは凄まじい記録で、今後塗り替えられることが考えづらいと感じるほどです。また、表彰式でトロフィーを手にして涙を浮かべる同選手の姿から、物事に挑み続ける心が大切だと教わった気がします。(seventh-dan)
