　今回取り上げるのはextrapulmonary / ékstrəpˈʊlmənèri / です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）にはこの表現のままでは載っていなかったので、分解して考えようと思います。pulmonaryは辞書に「肺の[に関する]」や「肺を冒す,肺病の」や「肺[肺状器官]を持った」とありました。extra-は「領域外の,…の範囲外の」などといった意味の形容詞を作るので、pulmonaryは「肺以外の」と意味を取るのが文脈的にもよいのではないのかと思います。インターネットで検索したところextrapulmonary tuberculosisで「肺外結核」とありました。

　記事に写真が掲載されていますが、あんなに小さな機械で「ズキズキ」などの訳しにくい言葉まで通訳できてしまうのかと驚きました。またそれと同時にショックでもありました。(rain)
