　one’s fellow countrymanを取り上げます。countrymanという単語を見て、まず「田舎者」という意味を頭に思い浮かべました。しかし、記事の内容にはそぐわないので、文脈から「同じ国出身の人」といった意味になるのではないかと予想しました。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「同国[同郷]人、同胞」とありました。one’s fellow countrymanでは「同郷[自国]の人」となるようです。確認のためにLDOCEも引いてみたところ、“someone from your own country”と定義されていました。また、例文として“It was two years since I’d seen any fellow countrymen.”が示されていました。こちらでもfellow countrymanの形で使われていることから、fellowとセットで使われることが多い表現なのではないかと思います。ちなみに、LDOCEにはcountrymanの同義語としてcompatriotが挙げられていました。
