　昨日米朝首脳会談の中止が発表されましたが、当初の予定通り6月12日に会談を行う可能性があることがわかりました。

Trump: Talks with N. Korea may happen

One day after abruptly pulling the plug on a high-stakes summit with North Korea, U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday the meeting with Kim Jong Un could go ahead after all — and would “likely” happen on the originally scheduled date of June 12.

The summit would be an unprecedented meeting between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader, which Washington hopes will result in the full denuclearization of the reclusive state. Trump said in a tweet that “very productive talks” were ongoing with North Korea about reinstating the summit.

“If it does happen, will likely remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th,” he wrote, adding the meeting could be extended further if necessary.

　pull the plug onを取り上げます。直訳で考えると、プラグを引き抜く様子が想像でき、ぶつっと何かが途切れることを表すのだろうと思いました。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「（略式）…を突然中止する」とありました。

　LDOCEには “to prevent a plan, business etc from being able to continue, especially by deciding not to give it any more money” と定義されています。主に計画に対する支出をやめるという意味で用いられるようです。

　中止を発表した翌日に再調整を進める方針が示されましたが、今後の動きはどうなるのか注意してニュースを追っていきたいです。（aqua）
