　日本でも大きなニュースになっているハワイで起こった地震と噴火に関する記事からです。

　今回調べたのはblue-collar / blúkɔ̀lɚ / です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）には「肉体労働（者）の」とありました。LDOCEにはblue-collar workers do physical work, rather than working in officesとありました。労働者が着ていた服の色が語源となっている単語のようです。

　ほかにもwhite-collarや環境問題を扱う業種を示すgreen-collarなどがあるようです。さらに最近は、その人個人のスキルを重視する職種を示すnew-collarという語も提唱されているともありました。（rain）
