Heda Port is a landing port for Takaashigani spider crab, which live 200 to 600 meters deep in the ocean. Many deep-sea fish are also caught in trawling nets. Nakajima, who took over his wife’s parents’ restaurant, was interested in those fish, most of which were cast aside by fishermen. He learned about the fish through picture books, cooked them and ate them.

今回調べたのはcast aside / kˈæst əsάɪd /です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）には「〈衣服など〉を脱ぎ捨てる」や「〈友など〉と関係を断つ,…を見捨てる」や「〈不安など〉を振り払う」とありました。LDOCEにはto remove or get rid of someone or something because you no longer want or need themとありました。castには「投げる,放る」などの意味があり、asideは「どけて」などの意味があるのでそこから連想すれば覚えやすいのではないかと思います。

深海魚として有名な金目鯛などは食べたことがありますが、記事の写真にあったようなまさに深海魚というようなものは食べたことがないので、食べて見たいと思いました。（rain）
