　今日取り上げる単語はminiaturize / míniətʃərὰɪz /です。mini-なので「小さい」という意味に関連したものであることが想像できました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）には「…を最小[小型]化する」と記載されていました。またLDOCEにはto make something in a very small sizeとありました。

　語源を調べていたところ、日本語としてもよくつかわれているminiatureに「…になる,…化する」といった意味の接尾辞である-izeがついてできた単語であることが分かりました。

私は記事の写真を見てもそんなに大きいとは思いませんでした。なのでこれから今よりもさらに機械が小さくなるのかと思うと、驚きを隠せません。(rain)
