Akita dogs charming visitors at exhibitions
Two exhibition facilities featuring Akita dogs, which have charmed dog lovers worldwide, have opened in central Akita in a bid to inform tourists about the charms of the breed with its erect triangular ears and curled tail.
Akitas are increasingly being used as a popular tourism resource, with the Akita city government planning to open an area at Senshu Park where visitors can interact with the dogs.
The Akita Dog Station, an exhibition facility set up in the Area Nakaichi commercial complex in the city, is operated by One for Akita, an incorporated body that works to protect Akita dogs, in cooperation with companies in the city. The facility lets tourists meet Akita dogs and take photographs with them.
One for Akita also intends to have the facility serve as a hub to address the decline in domestic dog registrations needed to issue pedigree certificates.

pedigree /pédəgrìː/ を取り上げます。pedigree certificatesとあることから、血統書のことをさしていると思いました。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で調べると「（動物の）血統、家系、経歴、立派な家柄、名門 2血統書、系図（family tree）」とありました。形容詞の意味もあり、「（動物が）血統の良い、家柄の良い」という意味があることがわかりました。
LDOCEには “the parents and other past family members of an animal or person, or an official written record of this” や “the history and achievements of something or someone, especially when they are good and should be admired” と定義されています。
pediは足を表す接頭辞ですが、どうして血筋に関係する語になったのか気になったので語源を調べました。goo辞書には「中期フランス語 pie de grue」という語からきていて、「ツルの脚；系図の線の形をツルの脚と見立てた表現」と説明されており、ツルが枝分かれをする様子からきていることがわかりました。（aqua）
