The United Nations Security Council is preparing to hold an emergency meeting on Monday over the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria. Many people are believed to have died in the attack.
The US and British missions at the UN said that 9 countries, including the current Council President from Peru requested the meeting.
Last month, the US called for an emergency meeting over an alleged chlorine gas attack in eastern Ghouta, where fighting between government forces and rebels continued.
But the council failed to hold the meeting as only 8 out of 15 members supported the request, falling just one short to satisfy a requirement.
Cote d'Ivoire, which abstained with 2 other African members last month, joined the US and Britain in requesting the meeting.
