Police questioned a man and searched his home in this city on April 7 in connection with the discovery of a pewit gull seen at a canal with an arrow fashioned from paper lodged its head.

Police are investigating the case as a possible violation of the wildlife protection and hunting law.

The capture of the species is banned under the law.

Residents near the Ishii Komon lockage of the Kitakami canal spotted the seabird with the arrow stuck in its head and alerted police on March 28.
