まさかの出来事です。

Her family reported her missing on March 31 in San Diego, the San Bruno Police Department said, and she was located by another police department on Tuesday morning, before the shooting, about 30 miles south of Youtube’s headquarters.

本日取り上げる表現は、piece togetherです。「ピースを集める」というようなニュアンスで解釈するという方法もあるかもしれませんが、例のごとく『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』（第四版、学研教育出版）で引いてみますと、やはり「（断片）をつなぎ合わせる。」、「（情報）を総合する；作り上げる、まとめ上げる」という意味で記されておりました。この表現を見たとき、togetherの直後から「犯人が犯行に至った経緯」と目的語が続いているので、一瞬、文構造の理解が止まりましたが、piece together で１つの塊なのでそのような形になるのは自然かと思われます。
ちなみに、ニューヨクタイムズ、BBCなどにも同じ事件を取り扱った記事がありました。当局によると犯人は動画を通して動物の保護を訴えかけていたようですが、規制に引っかかり腹を立てていたため犯行に至ったとのことです。しかし、犯人は自ら命を絶ち発見時にはすでに息はなかったとのことです。（WREN）
