Mobile game ‘Tabikaeru’ makes splash in China

The frog often goes on trips without notice and sends photographs from its travel destinations in Japan, such as Nyudosaki Lighthouse in Akita Prefecture, Zenkoji temple in Nagano Prefecture and Amano Hashidate, a scenic sandbar in Kyoto. It sometimes does not return home for as long as four days.

Observers say Tabikaeru may have contributed to encouraging some Chinese people to travel to Japan during the Chinese New Year holidays this month, as many Japanese tourist attractions and specialties appear on the game screens.

sandbarに注目しました。文脈から天橋立のことを指していることが分かります。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、「（波・潮流などによる河口の細長い）砂州」と載っておりました。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) には、a long, narrow sandbank, especially at the mouth of a riverと定義されております。

ちなみにsandbankも「砂州，浅瀬」などの意味を持ちます。英英の定義にもある通り、細長いものをsandbarと呼ぶようです。画像検索をしたところ、sandbankは小さな島のような形、sandbarは細長い形とそれぞれ少し違うことが分かります。（Gomez)
