Japanese ‘baby factory’ man wins custody of 13 kids born to Thai surrogates rain
BANGKOK – A Bangkok court on Tuesday granted a wealthy Japanese man “sole parent” rights to 13 children he fathered through Thai surrogate mothers, a ruling that paves the way for him to take custody of the group.
Mitsutoki Shigeta, 28, became the center of a “baby factory” scandal in 2014 after Thai police said DNA samples linked him to nine infants found under the care of 24-hour nannies in a plush Bangkok apartment.
The children were estimated to be between 2 weeks and 2 years old at the time and have since been under the care of the Thai state, while another four were later deemed to have been fathered by him.

読んでいて father / ˈfɑːðə / が動詞で使われていたことに驚きました。基本的な｢父｣と言う意味からと｢父になる｣などの意味だろうと思いました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第4版、大修館)を引いてみるとやはり｢<男が><子>をもうける｣や father 目的語 on で「<人>の父とみなす,<行為など>を<人>のせいにする」という意味でした。また、｢<考え・方法など>を生み出す,作る,始める｣やという意味もありました。
fatherと併せて浮かぶ単語といえばやはりmotherが挙げられると思います、fatherと同様に「…の母になる｣や「<母親として>…の世話をする」と言う意味のほか｢<子ども>を甘やかす｣という意味もありました。（rain）
