 今回取り上げる語は、progeny / prάdʒ(ə)ni / です。
 まず意味を確認します。Cambridge Dictionary をみると、”the young or offspring of a person, animal, or plant” と、OEDには、”A descendant or the descendants of a person, animal, or plant” と定義されていました。また、『ジーニアス英和辞典』(大修館)をみると、「(1)子孫、(2)子供たち<日常的な文脈でおどけて使うこともある>、(3)結果、所産」とあります。
 次に語源を確認します。OEDをみると、”Middle English: from Old French progenie, from Latin progenies, from progignere ‘beget’”とありました。(OkaUchi)
