People across Japan enjoyed the first total lunar eclipse in nearly 3 years on Wednesday night.
The phenomenon occurs when the sun, earth, and full moon line up, and the moon is covered by the earth's shadow.
The moon began to wane at around 8:48 PM.
The full eclipse started at around 9:51 PM and lasted about 1 hour and 17 minutes. The moon glowed dark red during that time.
The eclipse ended at around 0:11 AM.
The last total lunar eclipse visible in Japan took place in April 2015.

ケンブリッジ英英辞典をみると “an occasion when the sun disappears from view, either completely or partly, while the moon is moving between it and the earth, or when the moon becomes darker while the shadow of the earth moves over it” とあるため、光の影によって写し出された地球が月や太陽に被ることから月もしくは太陽が景色の上で消えてしまうという現象を指すことがわかります。
(Hapidra)
