スタジオジブリの作品で背景画を手がけてきた男鹿和雄さんは水爆実験で被曝した木造マグロ漁船「第五福竜丸」を穏やかな風景の中に描くという斬新な作品を披露しました。
Ghibli artist strands fallout contaminated boat in forest
It is an odd painting featuring a fishing boat that was exposed to radioactive fallout from a U.S. hydrogen bomb test sitting peacefully in a serene forest.
The artist, Kazuo Oga, a Studio Ghibli art director, decided on the juxtaposition to make his painting of the No. 5 Fukuryu Maru more intriguing.

“juxtaposition”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「(比較・対照のための)並列、並記」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“juxtapose”という動詞の形で載っており、“to put things together, especially things that are not normally together, in order to compare them or to make something new”と定義されています。男鹿和雄さんは水爆実験で被曝した第五福竜丸を穏やかな森の中に描きました。これは平穏を表すものとそうでないものが一つの作品に含められているわけですが、この対照的なものが一つの作品に込められているということを“juxtaposition”で表現しています。(Blue Sky)
