Teacher slanders student in Twitter posts, using another pupil's name
A 28-year-old male teacher at a junior high school in Saitama was found to have slandered a female student in Twitter posts pretending to have been made by a male student at the school, local education board officials said Friday.
The posts, including some commenting on her physical appearance, such as "She is losing out a lot because of her face," and "With that body shape and that level of unpopularity, I'm amazed how she can come to school," had been posted by the teacher at the school in Kitamoto, Saitama Prefecture, near Tokyo, since at least this summer. Some of the posts were lewd in nature.
lewdに注目しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、「みだらな，わいせつな」と載っております。古い意味合いだと、「邪悪な，不道徳な，無知な」などの意味もあるようです。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) には、 “clude and offensive in a sexual way”と定義されております。
語源は詳しく分かっていないようですが、元々の意味合いは “belonging to the laity”とのことです。laityは、「（聖職者に対して）俗人」という意味を持ちます。そこから転じて、 “belonging to the common people”、そして “worthless, vile, evil”と意味が変わっていきました。 (Gomez)
