2017ユーキャン新語・流行語大賞が発表され、年間大賞には「インスタ映え」と「忖度」が選ばれました。
‘Insuta-bae,’ ‘sontaku’ named top 2017 buzzwords in Japan
“Insuta-bae,” or instagenic, and “sontaku,” or acting for someone by guessing his or her intent, were selected in this year’s top buzzwords in the nation on Friday.
The popularity of the term for photogenic content suitable for Instagram erupted after “Can Cam it girl” models of a fashion magazine shared photos of night pool parties and other pictures, the organizer of the U-Can new words and buzzwords awards said.
“We are glad to have made our mark in history by inspiring a movement,” said Asami Nakamura, one of the models.

buzzword /bʌ́zwɚd/ を取り上げます。 “this year’s top buzzwords” とあることから、流行語のことを表しているのだろうと思いました。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で引くと「流行語っぽい専門用語」とありました。もともとはある特定の人たちが使うような言葉で、それがマスコミや人々の間で広がっていくため、流行り言葉になると考えられます。
LDOCEには “a word or phrase from one special area of knowledge that people suddenly think is very important” と定義されています。
buzzwordのbuzzはハチなどがぶんぶんいうという意味がありますが、群衆などががやがやいう、場所がざわめくなどの意味もあり、人々が口々に話す様子を表すことからwordと合わさって上記の意味を表すようです。（aqua）
