最近とおい場所からの漂流のニュースが多いように思います。

choppyに注目します。chopは知っていたのですが、choppyは知らなかったため気になりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、 動詞で「〈水面が〉波立つ，三角波の」、「〈風が〉絶えず方向を変える」、「〈市場などが〉変動の激しい」などと載っておりました。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) では、 “(of a sea, lake, or river) having many small waves”と定義されております。この記事ではシンプルに、「波立つ」という意味で用いられています。
ちなみにchopの形でも、名詞で「さざ波」や「三角波」といった意味があるようです。波の中でも、ものすごい大きな波ではないようです。(Gomez)
