“jittery” /dʒítəri/を取りあげます。LDOCEで“anxious or nervous”と定義されているように「神経質な、不安な」を表し、テロに関して過敏になっている街の様子が伺えます。
また“jittery”の言い換えとして“jumpy”が後半に出てきています。こちらは“worried or nervous, especially because you are expecting something bad to happen”とあり、「（不安から）びくびくする」と『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）に記載されていました。確かに映画やドラマでは、神経質だったりおどおどしているキャラクターはいつも何かに怯えて、肩を後ろから叩かれただけでビクッと小さくジャンプするような動作をするような気がします。(flying bird)
