Airbnb probed over alleged violation of Antimonopoly Law
The Japanese arm of U.S.-based Airbnb Inc., the world’s largest operator of online intermediary services for private facility accommodations, has been inspected by the Japanese antimonopoly watchdog, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.
The Fair Trade Commission conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the Japanese unit’s Tokyo office on suspicion that it had demanded that agencies providing “minpaku” private lodging services not do business with other online intermediary service operators, an unfair trade practice that violates the Antimonopoly Law, according to sources.
