　coup d'etat /kùːdeɪtάː/ を取り上げます。まずcoupを『ジーニアス英和辞典』で調べると「予期しないこと;大当たり、大成功」、etatは手持ちの辞典にはなかったのですがインターネットによると「状態、国家」を表すことがわかりました。よってcoup d’etat で「【フランス】クーデター、武力による政変」となります。Wikipedia には、「一般に暴力的な手段の行使によって引き起こされる政変のことをいい、フランス語で「国家に対する一撃」を意味する」、と記載されていました。さらにこの言葉は17世紀中頃に起こったフロンドの乱からきています。それからフランで起きた非合法的で武力的な動きをクーデターと呼ぶようになりヨーロッパ諸国で定着するようになったようです。またcoupだけで使用することも可能です。(Kiwi girl)
