Off and running
Teams from 49 universities run on a 20-kilometer course in a Tokyo suburb on Saturday in the qualifying race for the New Year’s Tokyo-Hakone Intercollegiate Ekiden. Teikyo University came in first and will be joined by the next nine finishers in the 94th edition of the Hakone Ekiden on Jan. 2 and 3. The top 10 universities from this year’s Hakone Ekiden, the 93rd, automatically qualified for the New Year’s race, led by Aoyama Gakuin University, which will seek its fourth consecutive victory, and one team comprising runners from other universities.
