長野市の善光寺で多数の×印の落書きが見つかった事件で、４７歳の女が逮捕されました。

NAGANO--More than 100 pieces of graffiti have been found here at Zenkoji temple, whose main hall is a designated national treasure, prompting a police search for the culprit.
A woman was filmed by a security camera acting suspiciously near one of the vandalized sites, according to a temple source.

“graffiti”/græfíːṭi/を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「«壁などの»落書き«on»」とありました。またLDOCEでは“rude, humorous, or political writing and pictures on the walls of buildings, trains etc”と定義されています。単語の綴りを見てわかる方もいるかと思いますが、この単語はイタリア語からきている表現です。ちなみに、「落書き」という意味の単語は他に“scribble”があります。小さい子供の落書きはどちらかというと“scribble”で表すようです。(Blue Sky)
