　“the citadel of”/síṭdèl/を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』で”citadel”引いたところ、「≪…の≫最期のより所、砦 ≪of≫」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“a place or situation in which an idea, principle, system etc that you think is important is kept safe”と定義されています。”citadel”はイタリア語の“cittadella”「城塞、砦」を語源としているそうです(goo辞書)。このイタリア語は「街」を意味する“cittade”に由来しており、これは英語の“city”ともつながりがあります。(Blue Sky)
