くまモンの活躍をITやアニメの分野でも広げようとする動きがあります。
Kumamon plots global takeover to avoid slipping in popularity
Kumamon rules. A household name in Japan, the bear seems to have his paws in everything, especially in his home prefecture of Kumamoto where he served as a flag-bearer for relief efforts after a series of earthquakes ravaged the region last year.
But local officials are worried.
They fear the mascot’s become so big that its popularity may soon peak and then begin to slide. A classic old plot is being hatched to deal with such an unbearable scenario--world domination.
The KumaLab research group was set up Sept. 1 to mastermind the mascot’s next moves, with anime stardom high on the agenda.

paw /pˈɔː/ を取り上げます。調べてみると、『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）には「1（犬、猫の）足（つめ（claws）のある動物の足をいう） 2（略式）（人の）手」とありました。また、関連語としてhoof「ひづめのある足」が取り上げられています。
LDOCEには “an animal’s foot that has nails or claws” や “someone’s hand – used when you are annoyed or angry” と定義されています。いらいらしていたり、怒っていたりするときは人間の手を表すこともあるようです。
日本語で言うときは「足」と一言で済んでしまいますが、英語ではそれぞれきちんと使い分けられています。人間の足とも区別して整理しておきたいです。（aqua）
