Prime Minister Shinzo Abe denounced North Korea for proceeding with a nuclear test despite international opposition on Sept. 3, calling it “absolutely unacceptable” and accusing Pyongyang of raising the security challenge to Japan to a new level.

“nonproliferation”/nɑnprəlɪ̀fɚéɪʃən/を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「(核・化学兵器の)開発[拡散]防止、数量[生産]制限」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“the limiting of the number of nuclear or chemical weapons in the world, especially by stopping countries that do not yet have them from developing them”と定義されています。歴史の授業などで習う「核拡散防止［核不拡散］条約」は今回の表現を使って“the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty”と表現します。(Blue Sky)
