After starting your dinner with a glass of white wine (or other drinks of your preference), you’re invited to taste four signature South American dishes, cooked exclusively a-la-Tokyo style by the hotel’s chefs: a melt-in-your-mouth avocado and mango salad, a cooling off Caribbean coleslaw, two shrimp and lime tacos, and two warm and slightly spicy chicken quesadillas. 今回はà laに注目します。真っ先にプリン・ア・ラ・モードを思い浮かべました。しかしア・ラの意味を深く考えたことはありませんでした。
まず『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「…流の，…式の」、「（特定の人などを）まねた，…流儀で」、「…つきの，…風の」などと載っておりました。次に引いたOxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)には、 “(of a dish) cooked or prepared in a specified way”と定義されております。語源はフランス語だそうです。
ちなみに上記英英辞典には “à la mode”で “in fashion; up to date”、 “(of beef) braised in wine”、 “served with ice cream”と書かれております。プリン・ア・ラ・モードは確かにプリンとアイスが盛り付けてありますね。（Gomez）
