Some New Jersey Transit trains have been canceled this week during the summer long repair work at Penn Station in New York because engineers are exercising contract rights that allow them to take two days to report for work when schedule changes are made.

Several trains were canceled Monday afternoon on the North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor line. An early morning North Jersey Coast Line train was canceled Tuesday, NJ Transit said.

The cancellations came during the second week of extensive repairs at Penn Station, the nation's busiest train station, that already have affected train service for hundreds of thousands of commuters. Rail riders took to Twitter and Facebook on Monday and Tuesday to vent their ire over the cancellations

今回気になった表現は、見出しにもある"no-show"です。そのまま直訳すると、「現れない」となりますが、ここではどのように使われているのでしょうか。

　『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）で調べてみると、「（飛行機、レストラン、催し物などで）席を予約しながら解約もせず現れない人」や「（約束しながら）現れない人」とありました。LDOCEでは、"someone who does not arrive or appear somewhere they were expected to be, for example at a restaurant or a meeting"と定義されています。つまり、突然の運休であったことが分かります。(Akim)
