Cheeky trainspotting raccoons finally go off the rails

KYOTO--Even wild animals get itchy feet and want to take a trip to some place new and exciting, especially if a long holiday weekend is approaching.
Or perhaps the two raccoons that boarded a locomotive here were simply trainspotters adding another engine to their "seen it-done it" list.
The young animals moseyed into the single-car train at Eizan Electric Railway Co.’s Demachiyanagi Station in Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward around 11 p.m. July 13.

　“mosey” /móʊzi｜mˈəʊzi/を取りあげます。“into”が続いているので「乗り込む」などの動作を表すと予想しました。
　LDOCEでは“to walk somewhere in a slow relaxed way – used humorously”と定義されており、『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）で確認すると「1.ぶらつく 2.立ち去る」とありました。語源は不明だそうですがアメリカで使われる俗語で、もとは「すばやく立ち去る」のニュアンスが強かったようです。
　「ぶらつく」といえば“wander”もありますが“to walk slowly across or around an area, usually without a clear direction or purpose”と定義されていて、迷子の状態でも“mosey”のほうが「うっかり」感があり、今回のたぬきたちの行動を表すのにぴったりだと感じました。(flying bird)
