Hawks top interleague for 3rd consecutive year
The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks looked like birds of prey on Sunday at Mazda Stadium, eating up the Hiroshima Carp 7-4 to wrap up the best record in interleague play for the seventh time in club history.
The Hawks are the first team in Nippon Professional Baseball history to finish with the best record in interleague play since regular-season games between the league started in 2005.

“bird of prey”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、“prey”の第２義に「捕食すること、肉食性」とありました。また、同じ項目に“a bird of prey”で「猛禽」を表現すると載っていました。“beast of prey”では「猛獣」になるそうです。確認のためにLDOCEを引いたところ、“a bird or animal which lives by killing and eating other animals”と定義されていました。
ご存知の方が多いと思いますが、ソフトバンクのマスコットが球団の名前にもあるように鷹であることから“bird of prey”が用いられています。(Blue Sky)
