Leasing Tsukiji site on the table
A Tokyo metropolitan government strategy headquarters is considering leasing plots of land currently housing the Tsukiji wholesale market in Chuo Ward to private-sector entities if plans to relocate the market to Toyosu in Koto Ward go ahead, it has been learned.
The headquarters will this week propose to Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike leasing the premises, which are under the ownership of the metropolitan government.
If an arrangement can be profitably made, it will be another factor for the governor to consider when making her decision about the relocation.
