　“fortnight”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、「２週間 (two weeks)」とありました。LDOCEも引いてみましたが、同様に“two weeks”と定義されていました。主にイギリス英語で用いられるようです。
　“fortnight”の“fort”は“fourteen”の詰まった形であり、“fourteen nights”が元の形であったようです。ちなみに、元の形の“night”は複数形になっていますが、“fortnight”は基本的に単数形で用いられます。(Blue Sky)
