「叱る」という意味を持つ単語には「ウィズダム英和辞典」定義にもあったように“scold”があります。LDOCEで定義を比較してみたところ、“scold”は“to angrily criticize someone”とあったのに対して“chide”の定義では“to tell”にとどめているので、“chide”の方が意味的にマイルドなのではないかと思います。(Blue Sky)
