Toyota Motor Corp. has released the first fully redesigned version of its Prius Plug-in Hybrid in five years — a car that can run significantly longer using just electric power and that uses a more-powerful electric motor during acceleration.

The magic of the PHV is really felt when you step on the accelerator to go up a hill. The electric motor works with the regular motor to produce a palpable acceleration. In electric mode, the car’s top speed is 135 kph, a major improvement on the previous model’s 100 kph.
