今回はtripodに注目しました。文脈から判断できるかもしれませんが、辞書で調べました。Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、"A three-legged stand for supporting a camera or other apparatus"と定義されておりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「（カメラなどの）三脚」「三脚台」と書かれておりました。また「Delphi 神殿の青銅の祭壇」という意味ものっており、巫女がその上に座り神託を告げたとのことです。
ちなみに語源はギリシャ語でtriが3、podが足を指すそうです。(Gomez)
