Vandalism soars at religious sites in Fukushima Prefecture

A spate of vandalism is sweeping across Fukushima Prefecture at temples, shrines and cemeteries, including "jizo" stone Buddha statues getting their heads chopped off.

About 100 Buddhist statues were damaged at 10 sites in Sukagawa, two sites in Koriyama and another two locations in Fukushima city up to Dec. 7, according to police, who are beefing up patrols to collar the culprits.
