Tezuka mural overlooks new section at Tokyo children's center

Once saved from the kindling pile, a massive mural drawn 29 years ago by Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989) and seven other renowned manga artists and illustrators is now fueling imaginations at a children's community center in western Tokyo.

Depicting a futuristic city filled with smiling children, the colorful and lively mural, themed on “town building of the future," is the centerpiece of a special section at the Koropokkuru children’s center in Kiyose that opened Nov. 27.

The section is filled with dozens of books featuring illustrations by the eight artists who collaborated on the giant artwork.
