It was far from the first time a young black man had been killed by someone who fancied themselves as "law enforcement" — but this time was different. In response, three brilliant black women created the hashtag #blacklivesmatter — a simple, yet profound rallying cry that ignited the imaginations of people, including many white people, across the country.
今回取り上げる表現は，“fancy”です。これを見た際，以前先生から教えて頂いた“Fancy some coffee?”がぱっと思い浮かべましたが，もちろん，この意味で用いられていません。
ここではどのような意味で使用されているのでしょうか。“fancy”は，ブログに何度か取り上げられていましたが，名詞の「空想」や形容詞の「装飾の多い」，「〈値段など〉法外な」などの意味があります。しかし，今回は，動詞として使われています。そこで，『ジーニアス英和辞典』（大修館書店）を引いてみると，「気に入る」や「〜と考える」，「うぬぼれる」などの語義が記載されていました。今回の場合，「と考える」として用いられています。(Nao)
