BBCは2013年から毎年100womenという「影響力を持ち、人の心を動かす女性100人」を世界中から選び、記事やドキュメンタリーにして報じているそうで、乳がんで闘病中のフリーアナウンサー、小林麻央さんが日本人で初めて選ばれました。

“break the mould”を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によるとmouldはmoldとも表記し、“break the mold”で「型を破る」とありました。moldには「鋳型」「骨組み」といった意味があり、語源はラテン語で「尺度, 基準」ということがわかりました。確かに“mode”で「様式」“module”「設計の基準寸法」といった意味があり、“mod”には共通したものがあると思いました。
個人的に小林麻央さんがブログを始めた頃のものは以前拝見させてもらいましたが、これを機にまた見させてもらいました。病気があるなし関係なく、自分と重ねて考えることができ、逆に勇気付けられる言葉もあり、１つ１つの言葉に感動しました。(lua)
