Trump meets Obama for first time at White House

President-elect Donald Trump took a triumphant tour of the nation’s capital Thursday, holding a cordial White House meeting with President Barack Obama, sketching out priorities with Republican congressional leaders and taking in the majestic view from where he’ll be sworn in to office.

Trump’s meeting with Obama spanned 90 minutes, longer than originally scheduled. Obama said he was “encouraged” by Trump’s willingness to work with his team during the transition of power, and the Republican called the president a “very good man.”

“sketching out”を取り上げます。sketchはオランダ語が語源となっており、『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「概略を述べる, 略述する」とありました。LDOCEによると“to describe something in a general way, giving the basic ideas”と定義されています。sketchの名詞形でも“a short written or spoken description”と定義されており、今回の初の協議が90分という短い時間の中で行われたことから、簡単に重要なことが共有されたことからsketch out が使われていることがわかりました。またsketch out には「おかしくなる」「やたらに怖がる」という別の意味もあるようです。(lua)
