Sony to launch new device to operate smartphones by voice

Sony Corp. said Thursday it will launch Xperia Ear, an earphone-shaped device that enables users to operate smartphones hands-free and verbally, on Nov. 18.

With the new accessory, users will be able to make phone calls and use messaging apps such as Line without having to pull their smartphones from their pocket or bag.

The device, which weighs 6.6 grams, fits in a user’s ear.

With its embedded highly sensitive microphone, Xperia Ear also enables users to check their schedules, weather information and news by speaking instructions to the device, among other functions.

今回取り上げるのはembeddedです。 embedの項目を『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べてみますと、他動詞で「（しばしば受身で）（…）を埋める、はめ込む、（心などに）深くとどめる」という意味であることがわかりました。embeddedはこれの形容詞形になります。Cambridge Free English Dictionaryには “existing or firmly attached within something or under a surface” と定義されておりました。firmly attachedという部分から、しっかりとくっつける、もしくは埋め込むというニュアンスがうかがえます。
今回は “With its embedded highly sensitive microphone” で「内蔵された高感度のマイクによって」という意味合いになるかと思われます。
