少し前のものですが、英検プリントに出てきた単語を調べていたらおもしろい記事を見つけました。

Have you ever been put off by the lengthy “terms and conditions” and privacy policies of mobile apps and other online services?
The Norwegian Consumer Council also has a grouse against these long and abstruse statements. And to prove its point, the consumer group has downloaded the terms of service and privacy policies for apps found on an “average” mobile phone, and are streaming live as guests read out the documents.
“Together they exceed the New Testament in length -- and would take more than 24 hours to read out loud,” the group said on its website. They point out that few if any have the time to read when they click ‘ok’ when they sign up to use an app.
今回取り上げるのはmumbo jumboです。
Oxford dictionaries.com.では“Language or ritual causing or intended to cause confusion or bewilderment.”と定義され、『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）では「無意味な呪文；複雑で意味の分からない専門用語」とありました。
アフリカの偶像からきている説があるようですが、正確な語源はわからないそうです（mumble "jumbo"?）。
