‘Kochikame’ manga earns Guinness record
TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Manga artist Osamu Akimoto’s “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikoen-mae Hashutsujo” police comedy series has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the single manga series with the most volumes published, publisher Shueisha Inc. said Monday.
Saturday’s edition of Shueisha’s weekly Shonen Jump comic magazine is set to be the last issue to contain the slapstick manga, widely known as “Kochikame,” which features Kankichi Ryotsu, a patrol officer at the Kamearikoen-mae police box in downtown Tokyo.
The book series of Kochikame will be concluded with the 200th volume including the final episode, which will also hit the store shelves on Saturday.
Starting in 1976, Kochikame has appeared in the magazine without any skip for the 40 years.
The book series has had about 150 million copies in print.
Kochikame became a television anime series and inspired a live-action TV drama series, a film and a stage.

今回取り上げるのはslapstickです。
LDOCEでは“humorous acting in which the performers fall over, throw things at each other etc”と定義されており、「ドタバタ喜劇」を表すことがわかりました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）では、「喜劇」の他にも「（喜劇で用いる）打ち棒（たたかれても痛くない）」とあり、この棒を劇中で使用することからslapstickが「喜劇」を指すようになったと思われます。
slapstickの画像を検索してみると、チャップリンや白黒の変な顔をした人たちの写真や、パーカッションで使われる細長い木の板二枚で「パチン」と音を出す楽器（鞭）などが出てきました。(flyingbird)
