今回取り上げる単語は、 “snazzy”です。以前にゼミで “sn”が頭につく単語は鼻に関係するものが多いと習ったので、今回も鼻関係の単語かなと予想しました。

Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “stylish and attractive”とのことでした。1960年ごろから使われているようですが、語源は不明と記載されておりました。

また『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「ハイカラな，いきな，しゃれた，けばけばしい」と載っておりました。

この単語はブラジルのこじゃれて活気のある感じを表すのにぴったりだなと思いました。

ちなみに似たような綴りの単語で “snazz”があり、意味は名詞で「優雅，洗練された派手さ」、動詞で「…をよりエレガントにする（up）」です。（Gomez）
