今回取り上げる表現は，“the art of the non-apology apology”です。ご存知かと思いますが，“art”には，「技術」や「わざ」，「こつ」などの意味があります。次に“non-apology apology”を見ていきます。そのまま直訳すると，「謝らない謝罪」となりますが，どういった謝罪でしょうか。
Los Angeles Timesの記事によると，“non-apology apology usually regret the ways others have misunderstood them, rather than regretting what they've said”と記載されていました。言ったことに対する謝罪というよりも誤解している人に対しての謝罪であるということが分かりました。つまり，“the art of the non-apology apology”は，「（人の不満や誤解に対する）形式上の謝罪術」となるのではないでしょうか。いずれにせよ本心から彼が謝っているとは思えません。(Nao)
